A common wins a battle against GMOs
We know that organic farming and GM crops can not coexist on the same territory (GMO contamination of organic crops). Here is an encouraging news, a press AFP dated 12 January:
"A small town in the Vaucluse, Le Thor, just to see enshrined in the administrative justice right to oppose GMOs, under a ruling Administrative Court of Nimes which AFP has obtained a copy Monday.
The court rejected a request from the prefecture of Vaucluse, who wanted to overturn a decision of 20 May 2008 whereby the City Council declared the Thor object to any culture of genetically amended in its territory. The prefecture said she does not intend to appeal.
Ruling dating back to December 5, note that the council was entitled to act as the GM issue "because of its potential impact on public health and the environment affects the town of Le Thor, mainly agricultural.
"We are the first municipality to have a trial on the merits," he told AFP Jacques Olivier, Mayor (Green) This town of 7,600 people who had knowledge of the trial in early January. "This is a victory for all people struggling for life and biodiversity for agriculture quality and proximity.
face justice administration, communication has emphasized that many farmers whose production is labeled "organic" living on its territory and could see their efforts undermined by the existence of cultures GMOs. In addition, the Sorgue, classified protection zone Natura 2000, through the town and wines of AOC Côtes du Rhone and Coteaux d'Avignon are high.
The town has also stressed that the warden had no action taken against an order of the Mayor's June 2, 2008 following the resolution of May 20 and to prohibit the outdoor cultivation of GMOs in the territory communal. The
Thor held mid-December a festival of farming and biodiversity of old varieties, said he was "common GMO-free" by putting a symbolic sign displaying this quality 4 October 2008. "

Grenelle of the environment and organic farming
Following are excerpts from an article in Western France (the link is shown attached)
" Reduce by 50% the use of pesticides, the treble agricultural land into "organic" certified 50% Farm ... The objectives of the Grenelle of the environment are well known for a year. It remained to find the means to achieve them. Now it is done with the presentation yesterday, a bill for services concote Borloo, the Minister of Ecology.
• Pesticides. Anxious to reduce the use and risks associated with pesticides, governments focus on two areas: training and coaching. Thus, all persons using pesticides as part of their business first and foremost ¯ ¯ farmers must hold a certificate. This will certify a good knowledge of the products by the user. The gardeners are also targeted any advertising in their direction is prohibited pesticide.
• Drinking water. In case of threat drinking water, the bill allows restrictions or bans synthetic chemicals around the feeding areas of catchments. The establishment of permanent pastures or timber culture will be privileged. Objective: To identify and protect 500 catchments in 2012. Following a period of three years, the prefect may make these mandatory measures if results are inadequate.
• Wetlands. The Grenelle has set a target acquisition in five years 20 000 ha of wetlands particularly threatened. A first. This type of operation was until now mainly the responsibility of the Coastal Protection and Lakeshore.
• Environmental certification. An environmental certification, voluntary and gradual, is created for farms. However, its contents and its implementation decrees are referred to. The "high environmental value," the final stage of this certification also remains to be defined. • Frame
green. What are the ecological zones to maintain or restore the mesh to form the green and blue? The bill is careful to respond. It defines the methodology in the field, involving the State, regional and local actors. If the concept of ecological continuity may be considered in planning documents, the law does not impose any particular type of management on these areas. It will be for local players to decide whether by contract.
• The "organic". Organic farming is not the subject of specific measures in this bill. Two measures for organic farmers have already been adopted in the Finance Act 2009: a doubling of the tax credit and exemption from land tax on undeveloped land. "

The high quality food is expensive?
Not always. It is true that excellent olive oil is twice as expensive, but we use two times less as it is fragrant, with the advantage of reducing our consumption of fat.
Headway the list of the foods can cost, nutrient-rich and potential culinary énépuisable, cereals (Cornflakes not) but wheat, rice, rye, buckwheat, corn, barley, millet, spelled ....
... Wheat brings us energy in the best shape, that of slow carbohydrates and proteins, minerals, vitamins and fiber.
Rice almost as nutritious, less expensive, has the advantage of consuming too much cold as hot as a starter, main dish or dessert.
Other grains are also interesting in terms nutritious. They cost a little more expensive but still among the cheapest foods ...
